Minor Football

Ardmore 1-13 Cois Bhride 2-06

Our Minor Footballers begin their Championship last Sunday in Ardmore where they faced the host club Ardmore in wet and heavy conditions. Playing against the strong wind in the first half we trailed by two points after 15 minutes, however Ardmore added on 5 unanswered points before halftime to go in at the break leading by 0-09 to 0-02. In the second half aided by the strong wind we had the majority of the possession, but unfortunately could not convert it into scores as we kicked some very poor wides. However goals from Stefan Tobin and Ryan Gray brought us to within a point of Ardmore and they needed an injury time goal to hold out for the win. Next up is a home game versus An Gaeltacht in a few weeks time.

U14 Football

Our U14 Footballers travelled to Clashmore last Monday night to play in the 6 team Eamonn Lombard Tournament. In our first game we played St Olivers and after conceding a goal in the opening minute we settled as points from Billy Hynes and a goal from Mark Stewart ensured we held on for a deserved win. In our next game we played The Nire. Again we were slow to start conceding 1-03 in the opening minutes before we rallied with goals from Billy Hynes and Liam Motherway and pointed frees from Darragh Buckley taking us in at half-time leading by 2-02 to 1-03. In the second half The Nire scored a controversial goal with the referee having blown his whistle for a free allowed the Nire player the advantage to score what proved to be the winning goal. As a result we qualified for the shield final, but unfortunately a slow start again was to cost us Ardmore scored a goal in the first minute. However we fought back and it took a last minute Ardmore goal to ensure they won the shield. Our thanks to Clashmore for their invite to a very well organised tournament, and their hospitality on the night. Our U14 Footballers now turn their attention to the U14 Football Championship where they travel to Ballymacarbry this Sunday morning to play The Nire @ 10.30am. Players will be notified of arrangements by text.

U8/U9 Indoor Hurling & Football

Our U8 Team travelled to Ballyduff last Saturday morning to play in an Indoor Football Tournament. Next Saturday morning it’s the turn of our U9 Hurlers who play in Ballyduff with a 10.30am start.

All Ireland Club Junior Hurling Final

Hard luck to Fullen Gaels from Manchester who were narrowly defeated by Kilkenny Champions Thomastown in the All-Ireland Junior Club Final in Croke Park last Sunday. The Fullen Gaels goalkeeper was none other than former Cois Bhride player and mentor Tom Goulding. Tom played an important part in Fullen Gaels winning the 2012 Warwickshire Senior Hurling Championship and made some crucial saves in their run in reaching last Sunday’s Junior All-Ireland
