U16 Hurling

Last Saturday morning we travelled to Fraher Field for the U16 County Final versus Cappoquin in hope rather than expectation. This Cois Bhride team however put up a brave performance against a strong Cappoquin side and we were still in the game with ten minutes remaining. In what was the first ever all Western County Final in the U16 Grade we played with the aid of the wind in the first half. However we found scores difficult to come by and all our first half scores came from long range frees from Jake Beecher. Cappoquin were working hard in defence and added five points of their own to lead at halftime by a single point. Playing with the aid of the wind in the second half Cappoquin began to apply a lot of pressure, but we scored the first point of the half from the excellent Edward Hynes to level the game. This was to be our last score of the game unfortunately, as Cappoquin began to take control, but were finding our defence difficult to break down, with Jordan Henley outstanding at full back. It wasn't until a Cappoquin goal scored in the 49th minute that effectively ended the game. From that score Cappoquin gained confidence to add a few more points to end up comfortable winners at the final whistle. Congratulations to Cappoquin on winning their first County U16 title since 1976, over the hour they were the better team. Credit however must go to this Cois Bhride team who battled until the very end, and put in a great effort all year. We now turn our attention to the Western Championship where we play Brickey Rangers later in the Summer.

U14 Hurling

Next Saturday our U14 team travel to Walsh Park to play Tramore in the U14 County Final. Having been defeated by St Olivers in the Western Final this team has responded in impressive fashion to defeat Cappoquin, Roanmore, St Olivers, Portlaw, Tramore and Passage to reach the County Final. In our game with an under strength Tramore team in May we came out winners by 4 points. It’s expected that there will be very little between both teams on Saturday as Tramore defeated a fancied Brickey Rangers team in their semi-final. As always, support for the lads is welcome! Our thanks also to Johnny Geary (Meadowfresh Foods) and Mike O'Neill (TFC Oil) for the sponsorship of togs and socks for the U14 team this Saturday.

Waterford Minor Hurlers

Congratulations to the Waterford Minor Hurlers and our own Colm Roche who made history last Wednesday evening by becoming the first Waterford minor team to defeat Cork on home soil in what was a pulsating game in Pairc Ui Rinn. After a poor first half where we trailed by 1-07 to 0-01 after 22 minutes Colm played a major part in the comeback scoring 1-03, including an important 1-01 just after halftime to put Waterford into the lead after 32 minutes. We now face Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds in the Munster Final on July 14th.

Minor Hurling Championship

Our minor hurlers begin their Championship this evening (Wednesday) with a home game versus Portlaw @ 7.30pm in Tallow. Due to the Munster Minor Final our second game versus Ardmore has been rescheduled to Wednesday July 17th.

U13 Hurling Championship

The U13 Hurling Championship begins on July 18th with our first game away to Cappoquin. We host Fourmilewater on July 25th and St Pats on August 1st before traveling to An Gaeltacht on August 15th and Brickey Rangers on August 22nd. The Western and County Finals are fixed for September.

U11 Town & Country League

Our U11 team finished their Town & Country League fixtures with a comprehensive win over Cappoquin last Friday evening in Tallow. In a game where we needed a win to finish top of the league table with Youghal and Ballyduff the result was never in doubt as great performances from Padraig Hynes, Mark and Tom Dalton, Shane Martin and Cathal Hunt ensured we won six of our seven games in the league. Next Sunday the U11s play Killeagh in the Knockanore Fete Blitz at 5pm. The team will be informed of arrangements by text.
