Western U16 Hurling Championship

Last Saturday morning our U16 hurlers had an early start as they played Cappoquin in the delayed U16 Western Final in Fraher Field, with the game throwing in at 10.30am. The game was played in heavy conditions with both teams finding scores difficult to come by. However it was Cappoquin who enjoyed the better start and they went in at the break leading by 0-05 to 0-01. In the second half we came more into the game and soon closed the gap to a single point before Kelvyn O’Farrell goaled with eight minutes remaining to put us two points ahead. That unfortunately was to be our last score as Cappoquin leveled the game with two points. In the final minute Cappoquin won a long range free which they converted to win the game on a score line of Cappoquin 0-12 Cois Bhride 1-08, in what was an excellent game of hurling, between two evenly matched team.

Congratulations
Congratulations to former Cois Bhride player Tomas Goulding who was named in the Lory Meagher Champions 15 team at the All-Stars last Friday evening in Croke Park. Tomas played a starring role in guiding Warwickshire to their first Lory Meagher Cup last June. Congratulations also to Seamus Harnedy on winning an All Star last Friday. Seamus has strong Shamrocks connections and his award was well deserved on his debut season.

 Well Done

Congratulations also to Lismore Camogie club on winning their replayed Munster Final versus Newmarket on Fergus from Clare last Saturday afternoon. Mary Murphy has been part of the backroom team there for the last few years.

Thanks

Our U16 game last Saturday morning was our last fixture of the 2013 season in all grades and brings the curtain down on what has been a successful season. Our thanks to the coaches, mentors, players and parents of all teams for their dedication during the year. Everyone deserves a well earned break before the 2014 season begins in the New Year.
