COIS BHRIDE GAA NOTES SPONORED BY CUNNINGHAMS OF TALLOW.

Minor Hurling County Semi-Final
Portlaw 2-18 Cois Bhride 1-19
Its been a rollercoaster week for our Minor hurlers who were originally fixed to play Portlaw in the County Semi-Final last Tuesday evening in Fraher Field. Having started the opening minutes well we went 20 minutes without scoring and went in at half-time trailing 2-11 to 0-03 to a more physical Portlaw side. However aided by the breeze we saw a totally transformed Cois Bhride team who fired over five unanswered points within the opening eight minutes to reduce the gap to 2-11 to 0-08. However with Cois Bhride in the ascendancy the referee suffered a hamstring injury and the game was stopped while he received treatment. Having unsuccessfully tried to find a replacement referee, the officials were unfortunately forced to abandon the game. The match was then refixed for last Sunday in Colligan, with a 12pm throw in. In total contrast to the game the previous Tuesday evening we took the game to Portlaw from the start and thanks to an outstanding save from Jordan Henley midway through the half we led 0-09 to 0-08 at halftime. In the second half our backs continued to hurl heroically and with Kelvyn O'Farrell and Rob O'Sullivan adding on points before Chris Hartnett converted a superbly worked goal we had a 5 point lead entering the last ten minutes. To Portlaw's credit they fought back and added two points before Jordan Henley made a brave diving save at the feet of the Portlaw full forward. The referee somehow believed it to be a foul and from the resulting 21 yard free Portlaw scored the equalising goal. Both sides had chances to get the winning score before full-time but extra-time would be needed to seperate the sides. In the first half of extra-time we added on 3 points before Portlaw replied with a goal to leave the sides level at half-time. With only 2 minutes to go we led by a single point before Portlaw finished the game with three unanswered points, to book their place in the County Final.
This was a cruel way for our lads to lose, but unfortunately it wasn't to be our day. Our thanks to all the players for their efforts during the year.
