Minor Hurling County Semi-Final

Cois Bhride 1-14 An Gaeltacht 0-12

Last Saturday our Minor Hurlers travelled to Fraher Field to play An Gaeltacht in the County Semi-Final. Having been defeated by the same opposition by a single point just a few weeks earlier we knew that there would be very little between the teams. Having elected to play with the strong breeze in the first half we started brightly and led by 5 points scored by Ryan Grey and Stefan Tobin before An Gaeltacht registered their first point of the game in the tenth minute. For the remainder of the first half both teams swopped points, and at the halftime whistle we led by 0-09 to 0-05. With the breeze strengthening An Gaeltacht enjoyed much more possession in the second half and after we opened the scoring thanks to a Kelvyn O’Farrell point An Gaeltacht had drawn level by the 45th minute with the scores at 0-11 each. However at this point we scored the crucial score of the game, as Jordan Henley gathering the ball on the 45 before racing through on goal and calmly finishing to the net. An Gaeltacht soon responded with another point, which was to be their last score of the game. With only minutes left we added on points from a long range Colm Roche free, a great individual point from Kelvyn O’Farrell and the point of the game from Dylan Mangan. In the closing minutes An Gaeltacht laid seize on our goal but our fullback line of Jack Tobin and Mikey O’Neill held firm and ensured we qualified for our first County Final in this grade in a number of years. We now face the current County Champions Fourmilewater in the County Final next Sunday morning @ 11.30am in Cappoquin. Support on Sunday morning for this very young team would be much appreciated.

 U13 Football Championship

Our U13 Footballers travelled to Bushy Park last Sunday morning to play Brickey Rangers and registered a very good win in what was a very entertaining game. We started well and kicked 4 points from Kieran Crawford (2), Mark Stewart and Ciaran McCarthy before Brickey Rangers replied with 2 points, to leave us ahead by 2 points at halftime. Brickey Rangers however were level within 2 minutes of the resumption as they kicked 2 great points. For the remainder of the game we played the best football that we have played in the Championship so far as a Kieran Crawford goal put us ahead, and was then followed by points from Mark Stewart, William Cunningham and another Kieran Crawford point. With our defense holding firm and our goal keeper Ciaran Hunt making a number of great saves throughout the game Brickey Rangers found scores hard to come by. We ended the game with another Kieran Crawford goal to finish comfortable winners. Our next game is at home to Clashmore.

U11 Town & Country Football League

In our first outing of the year in the U11 Town and Country League we played a very competitive game against Youghal with the supporters kept entertained right up to the last minute. At the interval we led 1-03 to 0-03 points with our goal scored by Mark Dalton. A second goal from Mark Dalton and a few long range points from Padraig Hynes extended our lead to 7 points between the teams. However to Youghal’s credit they didn’t give up and they replied with 2 goals in a late revival that reduced our lead to just a single point as the game entered the closing stages. Great defending from Eoin Hurley, Eoghan Lenehan, James Power and great saves from Cathal Hunt in goal saw Cois Bride hold out for a well deserved victory.

Team:  Cathal Hunt, Daragh Spillane, Eoin Hurley, Cian Hurley, Eoghan Lenihan, Mark Dalton,

 U 12 Football League

Following on from our draw with Cappoquin recently we recorded a comfortable win over Naomh Brid last week with our goals coming from William Cunnighan, Padraig Hynes, Tom Dalton, Mike Condon and Dean Beecher. We now play Clashmore away this evening (Wednesday) in the next round.

 Best of Luck

Best of luck to the Shamrocks Ladies Football Club who play the replay of the U12 County Final v St Olivers this Saturday in Ballyduff. The following week the girls are also in action in the U14 County Final v Old Parish. Both teams are coached by our Minor Hurling trainer Paddy Smyth, who has a busy schedule over the next few weekends. Hopefully Paddy will be celebrated a unique treble in 2 weeks time! Our best wishes also to the Shamrocks Junior Football team who play Colligan in the Western Final on Friday night.
