Western Minor Hurling Championship

Last Monday afternoon our Minor Hurlers faced An Gaeltacht in the Western Minor Hurling Championship. Missing a number of playerss through injury we started slowly and found ourselves 3 points down playing with the wind before Stefan Tobin opened the scoring for us. We followed this up with points from Adam Crawford, Noel Condon and Kelvyn O'Farrell to edge ahead. We then needed a superb save from stand in goal keeper Ryan Grey to keep us ahead. However some wayward shooting and poor finishing ensured we were only ahead by 3 points at halftime. In the second half playing with the wind An Gaeltacht were more dominant and after we extended our lead through a Kelvyn O'Farrell point An Gaeltacht responded with 4 unanswered points to level the game. Both sides exchanged points before An Gaeltacht edged ahead bt 2 points with 5 minutes remaining. We pushed forward in the closing minutes and were unlucky not to score the winning goal but for a good save and some last ditch defending from the An Gaeltacht full back line. In the end the missed chances in the first half came back to haunt us as we were defeated on a 0-14 to 0-12 score line.

 U14 Tobin Cup

Last Sunday as part of the Shamrocks 60th Celebrations our U14s played Killeagh in the annual U14 Tobin Cup. Missing a number of players and short of hurling practice having played their last Championship game in early July, the lads put in a great performance against a sharper and physically stronger Killeagh side. Playing against the breeze in the first half we started slowly and were 3 points down when a goal from Darragh Buckley levelled the game after 10 minutes. Killeagh then added 3 points before Padraig Hynes levelled the game once again with a well taken goal. At halftime having been starved of possession in our forward line we trailed by 5 points. We added points from Darragh Buckley early in the second half before Killeagh began to push forward and extend their lead. In the end Killeagh ran out comfortable winners, but with 10 of our starting team underage again next year it was a good performance from such a young team.

 Bride Rovers U10 Blitz

Last Saturday morning our U10 hurlers traveled to Rathcormack to play Bride Rovers, Ballymartle and St Catherines in an U10 Hurling Blitz. Played in poor weather conditions that made hurling difficult our lads put in 3 great prformances in what was a very enjoyable tournament.

Condon Cup

Next Sunday morning we host the U12 Condon Cup in Tallow. Players will be informed of the arrangements by text.
