Minor Hurling County Semi-Final

Cois Bhride 2-12 Fourmilewater 1-14

Last Sunday morning we travelled to Cappoquin to play the reigning County and Western Champions Fourmilewater in what turned out to be a thrilling County Minor Hurling Final.Hurling Final. Played in heavy and slippery conditions both teams served up hurling of a high standard, with the result in the balance right up until the final whistle.

In the opening minutes Fourmilewater opened the scoring with a point before we equalized with a great point from Kelvyn O’Farrell. This was then followed by a brace of points from Kelvyn who was beginning to cause problems for the Fourmilewater full back line. However Fourmilewater responded well with 5 unanswered points before Kelvyn drew the sides level again with a well taken goal midway through the half. We then took the lead through a Colm Roche 65 before Fourmilewater hit back with a pointed free. The half ended with Kelvyn O’Farrell racing through on goal and sending the ball to the net before following up with a point from an acute angle. Fourmilewater were however staying in touch thanks to a number of frees which resulted in the halftime score of: Cois Bhride 2-04, Fourmilewater 0-09.

We started the second half in whirlwind fashion and raced into a 4 point lead thanks to points from Kelvyn O’Farrell. This was followed by a great move that ended in Matthew Aherne hitting the crossbar with a pile driver, which rebounded to Stefan Tobin who calmly slotted the ball over the bar to extend our lead to 5 points. However within three minutes Fourmilewater were back level thanks to 2 points and a great individual goal to leave the score 2-08 to 1-11, ten minutes into the second half. For the remainder of the half both sides exchanged points and with just 2 minutes left to play Stefan Tobin won possession before rifling over what turned out to be the winning point. However we had to endure 3 minutes of nail biting injury time which ended with a Fourmilewater effort going just wide. From the puck out the final whistle blew to jubilant scenes and much relief for the Cois Bhride players and supporters. After the game Western Board Chairman Eddie Cunningham presented the cup to Cois Bhride captain Mikey O’Neill.

U13 Football Championship

Our U13 Footballers hosted Kilrossanty last Monday evening in the U13 Football Championship in a game that was played in poor weather conditions. Playing against the strong breeze and rain we had a bad start and found ourselves 3-03 to 0-01 down after only 10 minutes. However to our credit we soon got to grips with the game and dominated the remainder of the half. Our halfback line of Ben Aherne, Ivan O’Neill and Oisin Ormonde broke down numerous Kilrossanty attacks and delivered good ball to our forwards who were beginning to register scores. Dean Beecher and Mark Stewart scored goals and points were also added by Padraig Hynes and Eoin McGrath to leave the score at halftime Kilrossanty 3-05, Cois Bhride 2-04. In the beginning of the second half we enjoyed more possession playing with the strong wind and could have found ourselves ahead but were denied by some poor shooting and some great saves from the Kilrossanty goalkeeper. Midway through the half there was just a goal between the sides but Kilrossanty finished the game better by adding 3 unanswered points to finish the game deserving winners. In our final game we host Clashmore.

Team: Ciaran Hunt, Jack Murphy, Shaun Henley, Eoin Lenehan, Ben Aherne, Ivan O’Neill, Oisin Ormonde, Eoin McGrath, Ciaran McCarthy, Kieran Crawford, Mark Stewart, Liam Motherway, Padraig Hynes, Dean Beecher, William Cunningham. Subs Used: Michael Condon, Daniel Coughlan.

U11 Football Town & Country League

Last Saturday evening we travelled to Ballyduff to play the hosts in the U11 Town & Country League. We started the game very slowly and before long Ballyduff raced into a 4 point lead and but for some excellent goal keeping from Cathal Hunt Ballyduff could have been out of sight.  A goal from Mark Dalton midway through the half brought us back into the game. We then added points by Tom Dalton, Padraig Hynes and Shane Martin leave us leading at half time by1-04 to 1-01. We played some of our best football of the year so far in the second half and goals from Kevin Mulcahy, Eoin Lenehan and Mark Dalton saw us run out winners on a score of 4-06 to 1-01. To date in this competition we have record victories over Youghal, Naomh Bhride and Ballyduff. Our remaining two fixtures are against Stradbally and St Olivers in the coming weeks.

U12 Go Games Football League

Our U12 Footballers played out a very entertaining game in Clashmore last Wednesday night.  Playing with the aid of a strong wind in the first half Cois Bhride led by 3-04 to 0-02 at half time with the Cois Bhride goals coming from William Cunningham, Eoin Lenehan and Tom Dalton.  The situation was reversed in the second half with the wind ensuring that Clashmore were camped in the Cois Bhride half of the field. This resulted in Clashmore scoring 4 goals and with five minutes remaining they led by 5 points. A goal and a point by Padraig Hynes left only a single point between the teams.  Despite a great effort by Cois Bhride we were unable to get another score to level the match and lost on a score line of Clashmore 4-07 Cois Bhride 4-06.

Team: Dean Beecher, Dylan Power, James Power, Eoin Hurley, Mark Dalton, Jake Chambers, Cathal Hunt, Sean Henley, Ciaran McCarthy, Padraig Hynes, William Cunningham, Eoin Lenehan, Josh Geary, Tom Dalton, Mike Condon.

Paddy’s Winning Matches!

Congratulations to Paddy Symth and the Shamrocks U12 Ladies Football team who won the U12 County Final last Saturday morning in Ballyduff. The girls played out a thrilling final and had 2 points the spare over a very good St Olivers team in the end. Paddy followed that success up by training the Cois Bhride Minors to a County Title on Sunday morning. He’s not finished yet, as the Shamrocks U14 Ladies Football team play the U14 County Final this Saturday! Best of luck to Paddy and the girls, and hopefully they can finish the season with another County Title
