U13 Hurling Western Final

Clonea 3-07 Cois Bhride 1-05

Last Saturday we travelled to Walsh Park to play Clonea in the U13 Hurling County Final. A very strong and physical Clonea side had won all their games in the Eastern Championship so we knew we were going to be up against it on the day. After a very tight opening few minutes Kieran Crawford opened the scoring for Cois Bhride with a great point from a long range free. However Clonea hit back with a close range free that went through the crowded goal all the way to the net. We then replied with another Kieran Crawford point before Clonea struck for another goal. We ended the half with a fantastic point from Ciaran McCarthy and another pointed free from Mark Stewart. With Dean Beecher making some crucial saves in goal and our defense being well marshaled by Oisin Ormonde at full back and Shaun Henley at centre back we were coping well with the pressure being applied by Clonea. Having missed a few goal scoring chances of our own we were unlucky to be behind by 2 points at half-time. However straight from the throw in Clonea struck for another goal which seemed to give them the confidence to add on a number of points. To our credit we kept fighting and added a point from Kieran Crawford and a late Mark Stewart goal but in the end we were beaten by a better Clonea team on the day. Well done to all the lads for the effort that they put in over the last number of weeks. Even though we were disappointed last Saturday we showed great resolve to defeat St Pats in the Western Semi-Final by a single point and then defeat a very good An Gaeltacht side in the Western Final.

Minor Hurling Championship

Our Minor Hurlers defeated Ardmore last Wednesday evening in the Minor Hurling Championship. Having played with the strong wind in the first half we led by 2-07 to 1-03 at halftime with our goals coming from Ryan Grey and Jordan Henley. We began the second half in convincing fashion with points from Ryan Grey, Stefan Tobin and a Kelvyn O’Farrell goal ensuring that Ardmore did not get back into the game. In the end we ran out easy winners on a 4-16 to 1-06 score line. We played Clashmore last night (Tuesday) and play our final league game versus Tramore in Tallow this Sunday @ 12pm. We need to win one of our final two games to ensure qualification for the semi-final stages.

U16 Football Championship

Our U16 Footballers had a great win over Dungarvan last Friday evening in Dungarvan winning on a 2-12 to 2-04 score line. This Thursday we play Ballinacourty in Abbeyside @ 7.30pm in the same competition.

U12 Football League

Our U12 Footballers are fixed to play Naomh Brid at home this Friday evening in the U12 Football League.

U13 Football Championship

Our U13s begin the Western U13 Football Championship this week when we travel to Naomh Brid this Saturday morning. (11am throw in). We then travel to Bushy Park to play Brickey Rangers on September 28th. This is followed by home games versus Kilrossanty and Clashmore.

Annual Roanmore Charity Blitz

Our U8 and U9 teams were also in Waterford last Saturday as they took part in the Annual Roanmore Charity Blitz. This Blitz is in its 17th year with 124 teams involved on the day with the proceeds going to the Jack & Jill Foundation. Both Cois Bhride teams had a great day out with our U8s playing Kilmacud Crokes, St Mollerans, Roanmore and Kilrossanty, drawing one game and winning the remaining three. Our U9s were in a group that included Conaghy Shamrocks, Newcastle West and St Mary’s and recorded one win, a draw and a defeat. Well done to all involved!

Congratulations to all the Cois Bhride players who received their Junior Cert Results last week.
