U13 Hurling Championship

Our U13 Hurlers qualified for the Western Hurling Final after a hard fought win over St Pats last Thursday evening in Tallow. We began the game in impressive fashion with a brace of pointed frees from Kieran Crawford. St Pats replied with a pointed free before Mark Stewart broke through the St Pats defence to finish a great shot to the net. We then added a further point from Kieran Crawford and a great effort from Ciaran McCarthy. St Pats then hit back when a mistake in our defence let them through for a goal and they followed up with three points to draw back level. However just before half-time two points from frees from Kieran Crawford put us back in front at the break. Early into the second half we were reduced to 14 men when one of our players was harshly sent off. With St Pats having the numerical advantage it wasn’t long until they made it count with two goals. We needed the free taking of Kieran Crawford to keep us in touch and with time almost up we trailed by two points. In the final minute a long clearance broke to Mark Stewart who pulled first time to score a fantastic goal which put us ahead. In injury time St Pats pushed forward for the equaliser and it needed some great defending from our six backs to ensure we held on at the final whistle. We now face An Gaeltacht in the Western Final this Saturday.

Minor Hurling Championship

Our Minor Hurlers are back in action again next Wednesday evening September 11th in the Minor Hurling Championship with an away game versus Clashmore.

Best of Luck

Best of luck to Colm Roche and the Waterford Minor Hurlers in the All-Ireland Minor Final versus Galway next Sunday in Croke Park. The team has come through a tough campaign to reach the final, and hopefully will go all the way to win the Irish Press Cup for the first time since 1948.

Well Done

Well done to Jordan Henley, Ryan Grey, JP Lucey, Kelvyn O'Farrell and Jake Beecher who were members of the Waterford Panels at the Tipperary Supporters Club All-Ireland U16 Tournament held in Cahir last Saturday. Also to Dylan Mangan who was part of the Waterford Panel at the U15 Carrigdhoun Tournament in Cork.

Western U16 Hurling
