U14 Hurling

Last Saturday morning our U14 Hurlers played St Olivers in the Western Hurling Final in Fraher Field. In the first half we were playing into the strong breeze and were 3 points behind before we opened the scoring with a point from an Ian Beecher free. This was followed by a well taken goal from Adam Feeney and a point from Darragh Buckley. However St Olivers finished the half strongly and added a further 4 points to leave the half time score 0-07 to 1-02 in favour of St Olivers. We began the second half brightly and were rewarded with 2 goals from Darragh Buckley and with time running out we led by 2 points. To St Olivers credit they finished strongly and a goal in the last minute saw them lead by 1 point. They followed this with a further goal and 2 points in injury time to run out deserving winners on a 2-10 to 3-02 score line.

Following this defeat on Saturday the team had to recover to play Cappoquin in the first round of the County Championship last Monday night. This was another tough game between two evenly matched teams and after a slow start we edged into a 2 point lead. Cappoquin however hit back with 2 points before we edged ahead at halftime thanks to a Darragh Buckley goal just before halftime. In the second half we played our best hurling of the year with Kieran Crawford causing the Cappoquin full back line a lot of problems. Our pressure paid off with a great Mark Stewart point and a goal and some pointed frees from Darragh Buckley to ensure we won on a 2-08 to 1-04 score line to record an important win in this Championship. Next Monday evening we host Tramore in Tallow at 7.30pm.

 Minor Football

Our minor footballers exited the County Football Championship last Thursday evening after we were defeated by Affane on a 4-08 to 3-06 score line. This game was in the balance until the final whistle. We opened the scoring with a Colm Roche goal and an excellent point from Stefan Tobin before Affane hit back with 2 quick goals. Adam Crawford hit back from a penalty before Affane responded with 4 points to lead at half time. With time running out Affane were leading by 5 points before Adam Crawford reduced the deficit by scoring a goal from another penalty.

However as we pushed on Affane finished strongly and scored 3 points on the break to end up deserving winners.
